Portrait Assignment. :)

Occupy Pittsburgh Protester
[occupy, pittsburgh, protest, hippie]
I took this photograph as he was telling a friend and I about the Occupy Pittsburgh protest. He was explaining to us why they were there and what they are trying to accomplish by protesting. I thought his story was very interesting and he showed true dedication in what he believe in.

Indian Hippie
[indian, hippie, occupy, pittsburgh, man]
This photo was  taken as I was walking through the mess known as the camp out for Occupy Pittsburgh. This man offered us refreshments from the "99% free" concessions for the protesters. I took this photo because he telling other people that weren't really involved in the protest that they were welcome to walk around and enjoy the protesters' environment.

Photographer
I took this photo for a number of reasons. I really liked how this man was trying to capture a different angle when he was photographing his subject. He was traveling with two other men, who were also taking photos. I was also very interested in his camera. Although I did not talk to this man, I believe he was a tourist, because he did not speak English and he and his friends were photographing a lot of Pittsburgh.

Tourist Love
[tourist, station, square, love, couple]
I took this photo because I was walking with this couple as I was walking to school. They are from Ohio and were visiting Pittsburgh for the first time. After walking through Station Square, we parted and as they walked away, I took their photo. They seemed to be very interested in Pittsburgh and each other.

B/W Photo Assignment 1.

 Beginning of Fall
[beginning, fall, flower, bee, leaves, autumn]
Each day as I walk to school, I walk past this tree that had the prettiest yellow flowers on them. Although I enjoyed walking by to see the trees, they were always covered in bees. I took this photo because the flowers were beginning to die off because it was getting colder. If you look closely, one of the pesky bees was sitting on the flower. This photo will always remind me of the long walk I took to school each morning.

Overwhelming Construction
[construction, wood st, pittsburgh, sidewalk]
It seems no matter where I go, whether it's at school, on my way to or from school, or going to work, I always find myself in the midst of construction. I took this picture because, somehow, construction is now a big thing in my life. I see it everywhere I go. It's the reason I run late to school and work, the reason I can't walk on the sidewalks to school, and the reason most students are woken up in the mornings at PPU. Even though the construction seems noisy and annoying as of now, it will end up making Pittsburgh much better.

 Station Square
[fountain, water, station, square, pittsburgh]
Each day, I walk through Station Square to get to school. I always look forward to walking through Station Square, just to walk past this fountain. Not only is it something interesting to look at, but there's ALWAYS music playing! I took this picture because this fountain is something I look forward to walking by every day. I though this picture was interesting because it shows the water in the fountain at a stand still.

New Point Park Addition
[fountain, point, park, water, new]
One of the newest additions to the Point Park campus is the Village Park. And in this park, is a fountain. This photo shows the motion of the water in this fountain. I took this picture because not only is it an interesting addition to the campus, but I see it daily and when I walk by, I'm usually misted with water from it. I thought this fountain was so cool though! I like how it goes up the side of the building. I liked the addition of this park because it makes me forget I'm in the middle of downtown.

About Me.

Hi everyone! My name is Sara. I'm originally from southern Illinois, and now living in Pittsburgh. I'm attending Point Park University as a photography major. So far, I love it! After college, I hope to start my own portrait studio somewhere in Illinois.

I have been taking photos of families, seniors, weddings, engagements, etc. for about a year now. It's been a great experience so far and I hope to continue this in the future. If portrait photography does not work out, I would like to work for a newspaper or magazine taking photos of sports. I love action photography! But, my favorite is still portrait photography.

My goal as a photographer is to help people remember special occasions, like weddings or their senior year, and capture other special things in their lives, like family pictures and engagements. My favorite type of portrait to take is definitely seniors. I love being able to work with people my age and the ability to really have fun and take fun, creative pictures.

Hopefully Point Park will be able to help me achieve my goal!
